Role and Responsibilities
- The Legal Assistant will assist judges with legal research, prepare summaries of case law, and assist with note-taking for judgments/orders.
- They will draft and prepare legal documents, briefs, and reports for judicial use.
- They have to handle case records, verifying legal citations, and performing data entry/word processing related to court work.
- Other role involves is supporting administrative tasks within the judge’s chambers, including managing files and correspondence.
- Maintaining confidentiality and supporting the judicial process in all assigned matters.
There is no written test here and selection on the basis of interview, after an initial screening of applications. Legal Assistants are not permitted to practise as advocates during their engagement with the High Court.
Salary
- Fixed honorarium of ₹30,000 per month.
- No Dearness Allowance or additional benefits such as housing or medical coverage are provided.
Contract Period
- The appointment is purely contractual, initially for 1 year.
- Extension is possible up to 3 years, based on satisfactory performance.
Selection Process
- Selection is solely interview-based after initial shortlisting.
- Applicants must not be practicing advocates or working elsewhere during the engagement.
- Termination may occur at any time after one month’s notice or with one month’s salary in lieu of notice, at the discretion of the High Court.
- No TA/DA or government facilities are given.
- Legal Assistants are prohibited from practicing law during their contract period.

Restriction
