1. Educational Qualification & Marks Criteria
- Degree Required: Full-time regular B.E. / B.Tech degree (10+2+4 or 10+3+3 lateral entry system) or a 5/6-year Integrated Engineering Degree in the relevant discipline from a recognized University or Institute.
- Ineligible Qualifications: Degrees obtained through Distance Education, Correspondence, Part-Time, or E-Learning modes are strictly not eligible.

HAL has clarified that, in addition to the branches specifically listed above, it reserves the right to consider candidates from other branches of the same engineering discipline, subject to the prescribed eligibility conditions. However, in such cases, the candidate’s Degree/Provisional Certificate must mention one of the specified disciplines or branches listed in the recruitment notification.
Important Information About Professional Courses
Candidates should also note the provision regarding technical courses offered by professional bodies/institutions. As per MHRD O.M. F. No. 11-15/2011-AR(TS.II) dated December 6, 2012, certain technical courses offered by professional bodies/institutions were de-recognised with effect from June 1, 2013.
Therefore:
- Candidates who enrolled in such courses on or before May 31, 2013 may be considered eligible as equivalent to a Degree in Engineering.
- Candidates who enrolled in these courses on or after June 1, 2013 will not be considered eligible under this provision.

- Tie-Breaking Rule: If two or more candidates score the exact same aggregate percentage, the senior candidate in age will be placed higher in the merit list.
- Interview Passing Standard: Unreserved candidates must score a minimum of 50% marks in the interview to qualify for final selection. Relaxations apply for SC/ST/PwBD candidates as per rules.
