A major update is coming for railway job aspirants. The Railway Board has approved 5,165 vacancies under the Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) for recruitment notification in 2026. These vacancies include 3,477 Graduate-level posts and 1,688 Undergraduate-level posts.

The approval has been communicated to the Zonal Railways and Production Units, and the vacancy indent process will now move forward as per the fixed timeline.

What Does This Vacancy Approval Mean?

This is an important development because the Railway Board has now approved the number of vacancies that will be used for the upcoming NTPC recruitment notification.

The next steps involve the submission and finalisation of vacancy indents by the concerned railway units and Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs). After the final indent process, the recruitment notification is expected to provide candidates with detailed information about:

  • Eligibility criteria
  • Age limit
  • Application dates
  • Examination pattern
  • Syllabus
  • Application fee
  • Railway/zone-wise vacancies
  • Selection process
  • Reservation and category-wise vacancies

Candidates should therefore not consider the recruitment application window open until the official CEN is published.
