Census 2027 full schedule

The situation has finally become clear regarding the long-pending National Census in India (National Population Census 2027). The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an official notification to conduct the census in 2027 under the Census Act, 1948. This census is being considered historic in many ways, as it is being held after a long gap of 16 years after the 2021 census was postponed due to the Covid 19 epidemic. The most important thing is that this time the caste census has also been included in the census, which will play an important role in determining the direction of social and economic schemes.

Census 2027: Highlights

In most parts of the country, midnight of March 1, 2027 will be considered as the base date for the census.

But for cold and inaccessible areas like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Uttarakhand, this date has been kept as October 1, 2026. The reason for this is the weather-related difficulties in these areas.

What will be the time frame of the census:

The entire process of the census will be completed in about 21 months, which includes work from the first phase to the final report. The primary data of the census will be released in March 2027 itself, which will give a glimpse of the current status of the population. However, the detailed report which will include social, economic, caste and cultural details will be made public by the end of the year.

The census will be done in two phases:

Houselisting Operation (HLO): In this first phase, information related to the condition of every house, its amenities, property, water, electricity, toilet etc. will be collected.

Population Enumeration (PE): In the second phase, information like name, gender, age, education, occupation, socio-economic status, religion, language and caste of every member of every house will be taken.

Digital census for the first time:

The 2027 census will use a mobile app based digital process. Citizens will also get the facility of self-enumeration, so that they can fill their information online themselves. Let us tell you that about 34 lakh enumerators, supervisors and 1.3 lakh specially trained employees will be employed in this work.

How many times has the census been conducted before this:

This will be the 16th census of India and the eighth time a nationwide census is being conducted after independence. Census 2027 will not only provide updated population data, but will also become a strong basis for caste, social and economic schemes. New features like digital innovation and self-enumeration are going to make this process more transparent and participatory.
